The Friends was founded in 2019 by Marshal J. Phipps after he was concerned about the lack of restoration progress with the train at Hunter Park Douglasville. Marshal decided to approach the City of Douglasville with a proposal on how to reactivate and modernize the train after he was alarmed to hear the train maybe removed from the park for good. He won the support of the Douglasville mayor and the city and allowed him to explore options on collecting funding to restore, reactive, and modernize the train.
The friends seek to to manage the preservation, promotion, and care taking of the railroad and its historic assets. The friends also seek to modernize the railroad to make it more interactive and entertaining. Finally, the friends seek to keep the Hunter Park Scenic Railroad running for future generations to enjoy.

Founder, Owner, Operator
Marshal Phipps seeks to not only preserve a piece of Douglasville history, but also preserve the legacy of C.B. Fehrler Young, a former Douglasville resident who personally paid for the railroad back in 1956 and made it a popular attraction to the citizens of Douglasville.
